Hannah Mae, a female, fixed, beagle mix (Approx. 3 years old.) is obsessed with squirrels!! She even climbs the tree!!! She also climbs our wood pile and I found a small red spot on her leg, not bleeding but sore as if scratched. I cleaned it thrououghly and covered it. Anyway, she barks all day and all night. In the day it’s ‘okay’, if you know what I mean. I worry that she’ll fall and hurt herself, what can I do to keep her from climbing the trees and woodpile, should I get a fencing around that area? Also, at night, I’m worried that she’ll get hurt still but also that it’ll bother the neighbors (even though she is my first priority.
) How can I keep her barking as much? Some is natural and I understand, but she won’t come, or pay attention to us when we go out, she’s completely focused onto the squirrels!
Thanks in advance!!!

Its normal, many of my dogs have had the same thing.
If she is a beagle there is not much you can do once they have their nose to the ground and their prey spotted. Definately fence off areas of concern but try to prevent her from seeing things at night with curtains etc. You can do some recall work with her when she is not distracted but you are really fighting mother nature here to a large degree.
I would suggest getting a long leash for the yard, my cousins dog is the same way it is very hard to get the dogs attention once he sees a squirrel, what i do with my dog (first get the leash) when he sees a squirrel or other dog i get infront of him and block his view, he tries to look around me but he gives up eventually, i hope that helps
mabe the squirrels are there because they can smell your dogs food or something. or just wait for your dog to get use to them
Your dog needs to be chanllenged ask your dog to sniff where her home she will spend hours to sniff where her home is your dog needs to be exercised longer and take her on walks My male beagle is stubborn but talking to your dog will help .
Bring her in the house at night.
